The Wings of Awakening - An In-Person Half-Day Retreat with Howie Cohn

The Wings of Awakening
An In-Person Half-Day Retreat with Howie Cohn

Fort Mason Center, San Francisco
Saturday, October 21
9:00am - 1:00pm

The two wings of awakening are wisdom and compassion. If you want to be happy in this life you must be wise. The highest wisdom is to be compassionate with yourself and with others. Relating to anyone harshly and critically is born of confusion and frustrated desire. When you view yourself with wisdom, being self critical and judgmental of others no longer makes any sense. Compassion and love are the natural expression of awakened awareness. A compassionate heart grows from experiencing others and ourselves clearly and intimately.

This retreat will follow the Buddha’s practical, clear and inspiring map of awakening wisdom and compassion in our hearts and minds. He said, “If it were not possible to awaken, I would not ask you to do this.” Learning and practicing with loving awareness we will gently move from ill will to kindness, from clinging to freedom, from confusion to clarity, and from tension to relaxation.

We will spend our time in silence, alternating sitting meditation with walking meditation. There will also be an opportunity for practice discussions. Suitable for all levels.

Doors will open at 8:30 for tea, snacks, and socializing.

Suggested donation is $35-75, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you neeď to inquire about scholarship, please email sf.mission.dharma@gmail.com.

This half-day retreat is co-sponsored by the San Francisco Insight Dharma Center (SFIDC)
