A Peace Offering - An In-Person Daylong Retreat w/ Howie Cohn
Join Howie Cohn & Mission Dharma for our first daylong retreat at Fort Mason. Together we will cultivate peace for ourselves and the world.
In the Wendell Berry poem “The Peace of Wild Things” he reminds us that wild things “do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.” Forethought of pleasure and pain both keep our minds in a state of tension and suspended peace. Meditation reminds us that peace is available in every instant as our natural state. Practicing together in a sustained way also helps to weaken the habits of mind that oppose peace and grow the conditions that increase peace and wellbeing. What better peace offering can we make to this suffering world than being together in silence, moment to moment ending war in our own hearts and minds.
Our day together will be spent in silent practice, both sitting and walking. There will be opportunities for practice discussions. Suitable for all levels.
We will be taking a 45 minute lunch break around midday. There will be some snacks provided, and there are places in Fort Mason to grab a quick bite. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch.
Doors will open at 9:00 for tea, snacks, and socializing.
Suggested donation is $40-80, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you neeď to inquire about scholarship, please email sf.mission.dharma@gmail.com.
